This Impactful Design

Excerpt from my Blog Post from February 9, 2011: Being the baby of the family, I was my mom's sidekick. I'd often copy my sisters, but with the majority of my time being spent with momma, I was mainly interested in the things that interested her. We'd watch TV shows together after cooking supper (before noon) and before Young and the Restless which was the time I napped. Some of our favorites were The Little House on the Prairie, Leave it to Beaver, Father Knows Best, I Dream of Jeannie, and my personal favorite, Bewitched.  One thing I vividly remember about Bewitched: Samantha's necklace.    I specifically remember telling my mom that I liked her necklace; I liked the way it "sat."...

(Easy) Homemade King Cake

With baking, my motto is: "I'm not doing it if it's not easy." So rest assured, this is easy. And this is good.  I've been making this Holly Clegg King Cake recipe for years. When my December baby wanted to be strapped to me for the entire spring of 2015, I remember getting a few droplets of purple, green, and gold icing on his bald head as I completed the final step of this homemade King Cake.  I can report that he is 6 now, and he still loves this King Cake. Bon Apetit!    Makes 16 servings 2 (8-ounce) cans crescent rolls 4 ounces cream cheese 2 tablespoons confectioners’ sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 2 tablespoons butter 1/3 cup light brown...

Mystery Devotional Lady: Valentine's Day

As many of you know, I share Mystery Devotional Lady's sweet prayers from time to time. Here are her words from February 14, 2013. I hope this makes you smile.  "Lord, Thank You for Valentine's Day. Help each of us share God's love daily. Help us to walk close to You, reading Your Word, and doing our best to live it. Forgive us when we sin, help us to grow more like Jesus each day! Thank You, Lord, for filling our life with the joy of the Lord! Fill us with Your love , grace, and mercy. Give us strength and knowledge to walk daily with You. Keep the path before us safe. Please keep each of us well. Please...

Can I wear pearls to the gym?

In "following the crowd-January fashion", I, too, have found myself working out at the gym. This is a real gym, equipped with those iron push things that football players move when they train in practice.  The early mornings of Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday is when I participate in this horrible experience.  Lacking the athletic gear, weight gloves, and muscles, I am the obvious newbie. I want these gym rats to like me, but as I observed more and more on Saturday, we are not "cut from the same cloth" as they say.  These people come in, excited about the run in 39 degree weather that I didn't know was going to take place. Petrified, I say, "Uh oh, I didn't wear warm enough...

Marinated Mushrooms

Momma always served marinated mushrooms in a dark green, smooth crystal bowl on Christmas Eve at our home in south Louisiana. Every year. No exceptions. It's become a staple for my parties now in Auburn, mainly because it's an easy, ahead of time recipe, and it's a impressive-looking appetizer...especially when you present it in a crystal dish like momma does.  I don't know where she got the recipe, but Mom says in our Family Favorites Cookbook, "I've been making these for years---since Dad was in residency. Everybody looks for them on Christmas Eve."    Marinated Mushrooms: 3 - 8oz. cans button mushrooms 1 cup red wine vinegar 1/4 cup vegetable oil 2 packages Good Seasonings Italian Dressing Mix 4 green onions...
